A cleaner precinct starts with shared responsibility - MEUIP

Across every urban precinct, there are real challenges that require both structure and compassion.

At MEUIP, we believe that a well-managed precinct must be safe, clean and properly governed, but also humane in how it engages with people.

In our area, we recognise that not every individual on the street represents the same situation. While bylaws and lawful processes remain important, we also believe in creating opportunities, where appropriate, for individuals to contribute positively to the community.

Over recent weeks, members of our team, including community volunteers, have been working alongside individuals from within the area to support basic cleaning and upkeep activities. These are small but meaningful opportunities that restore a sense of purpose, dignity, and shared responsibility.

One of the individuals (Sindisiwe) involved in these efforts shared:

“I enjoy working with the team. It gives me something to do, and I feel proud when

the area looks clean. It makes me feel like I’m part of something.”

This reflects an important principle:

A stronger precinct is not built only through enforcement, it is built through participation, accountability, and dignity.

Our approach remains clear:

  • We support lawful processes and proper engagement with authorities where required

  • We promote a clean, safe and well-managed environment

  • And where possible, we encourage constructive, humane engagement that uplifts rather than isolates

We believe that when people are given the opportunity to contribute, it not only improves the environment, it strengthens the social fabric of the community.

As MEUIP continues to grow, we remain committed to a balanced approach:

firm where necessary, but always fair and human.
