Community Momentum Continues to Build

On Thursday evening, 21 May 2026, community members from across Musgrave and

Essenwood gathered at Maris Stella Girls' High School for the first official Volunteer Information and Mobilisation Meeting of the Musgrave Essenwood Urban Improvement Precinct (MEUIP).

What was immediately evident throughout the evening was that there is a growing desire amongst residents, property owners and stakeholders to play an active role in shaping the future of our area.

The meeting was attended by volunteers, residents and members of the MEUIP Steering Committee, all united by a common belief: that our community deserves to be safe, clean, attractive and well-managed, and that meaningful change is possible when people work together.

The evening provided an opportunity to introduce the proposed UIP, explain the vision for the precinct, outline the volunteer mobilisation strategy and answer questions from attendees. More importantly, it allowed community members to engage with one another and begin building the relationships that will be required to move the project forward.

There was healthy discussion around safety, cleanliness, urban management, sectional title participation, volunteer engagement and the future of Musgrave and Essenwood. What stood out most was not simply the questions that were asked, but the willingness of people to become part of the solution.

The proposed Musgrave Essenwood UIP is more than a project. It is an opportunity for our community to take collective ownership of the future of our precinct.

The vision is clear:

● A safer community

● Cleaner streets and public spaces

● Better managed public environments

● A precinct that residents are proud to call home

● Improved collaboration with municipal structures

● Stronger community partnerships

● Enhanced property values and investment confidence

The Steering Committee was encouraged by the positive response received and would like to thank everyone who attended, volunteered their time and contributed ideas.

However, this is only the beginning.

For the MEUIP to proceed to the next stage, we require the support of property owners throughout the precinct. This support is demonstrated through the completion of Assent Forms, which form part of the formal Urban Improvement Precinct process.

Every completed assent form helps move us one step closer to establishing a sustainable and properly governed mechanism to improve and manage our area.

If you are a property owner within the proposed precinct and have not yet completed your assent form, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible.

Likewise, if you would like to become involved as a volunteer, Road Champion, community ambassador or supporter, we welcome your participation.

Communities do not improve by chance.

They improve when ordinary people decide to become involved.

The future of Musgrave and Essenwood will not be determined by a handful of individuals. It will be shaped by the collective efforts of residents, businesses, institutions and stakeholders who believe that our community is worth investing in.

Together, we have an opportunity to build something that will benefit not only ourselves, but future generations who will live, work and invest in this area.
